AWS Lanyard

ClientAWS

AWS asked for a development board it could put in the hands of re:Invent attendees in 2017. That left eight weeks. Tekt designed the AWS Lanyard with AWS and Accumulatos: a hexagonal ESP-WROOM-32 board with a lanyard slot cut into the outline, for Wi-Fi sensor and control messaging on Mongoose OS and Amazon RTOS.

AWS Lanyard

The engagement did not start cold. In August 2017, three months before re:Invent, Tekt was already describing itself publicly as "an existing partner to Amazon Web Services".

What we designed is a bare hexagonal PCB with a lanyard slot cut into the outline — no enclosure. On it: an Espressif ESP-WROOM-32 module, a micro-USB serial port, a JST battery connector, two user buttons, a reset, user LEDs, and Grove headers for analog and digital sensors. The reverse carries an OSHW open-source-hardware mark beside the line "Design By Tekt Industries".

The brief was to enable rapid development of IoT applications, and the board supports both Mongoose OS and Amazon RTOS. Wi-Fi carries the sensor and control messaging, with edge data collection the other intended use.

Eight weeks from AWS's ask to finished hardware, and the boards went to re:Invent attendees in 2017.
