Sports Performance Tracking's first product was an off-shore OEM unit that could tell a coach only where a player had been. Tekt built the replacement from the concept sketch to the pilot production run.
Sports Performance Tracking, a Melbourne company specialising in wearable metrics for high-impact sports, came to Tekt to replace that unit. Tekt provided end-to-end development: concept design, parts sourcing, circuit board design, firmware, in-house testing, every prototype used for field testing, and initial pilot production at Tekt's Melbourne fabrication facility.
The device had two jobs at once. Coaches want stats during the game — distance run, sprints, max acceleration, time on the field, impacts taken. Players want the complete raw log afterwards. Tekt's answer was a patented configuration of microcontrollers on the SPT2 board: one microcontroller dedicated to Bluetooth, a second giving fast and flexible data transfer over USB. Alongside GPS, Tekt integrated a magnetometer, gyroscope and accelerometer, so the IMU and GPS measurements could be fused rather than read separately.
The device weighs 27 grams, logs for six hours — two AFL games — between charges, and is water-resistant to IP65 behind a hinged air-tight seal designed to keep out liquids and dust. It charges over micro-USB as a single unit, or as a whole squad: the custom-built charging case charges and transfers data for 15 units simultaneously. SPT's own sports scientists wrote the companion software, GameTraka. At announcement in August 2017, the two companies expected release around December 2017.
